Community Outreach

This PTA sponsored club will coordinate, strengthen, and maintain community ties with various establishments and services in our community and beyond.  This committee works with a small group of students to plan several events throughout the year.  These events help raise awareness and support charities in our community and beyond.  Visit this webpage frequently to see what new and exciting things this committee is up to!



2016-2017


  • School Supply Drive for our adopted School, Mary Ann Winterling Elementary School located in Baltimore City.
  • Organized a Pink Day at school and raised money for cancer research
  • Coat Drive
  • Hosted a family fun night, featuring James Munsey, consisting of a Comedy Hypnosis Show.  Proceeds are used to support Community Outreach efforts throughout the school year.
  • Project Giving Tree - Students organized, collected and delivered over 300 gifts to the students at Mary Ann Winterling ES in Baltimore City.  Community Outreach students also participated in a field trip to deliver these presents.  We read the book, "The Giving Tree" along with MAWES pre-k students, made a snowman craft, had lunch together and played games for a short while until it was time to leave.
  • Baked cookies for the homeless
  • Provided 2 staff appreciation mailbox treats for the MAWES staff (flu prevention goodie bags and snowman soup),
  • Participated in the Kids Helping Kids Food Drive
  • Provided a luncheon for the staff at our adopted school at Mary Ann Winterling Elementary School located in Baltimore City on February 13th, 2017.
  • Delivered a Valentine, a smencil, to every student at at our adopted school at Mary Ann Winterling Elementary School located in Baltimore City.

PTA Sponsored Community Outreach - Thank you for a great school year!

The Community Outreach Committee and its student group is extremely grateful to work with such a generous and supportive school community - THANK YOU!!  With your support, this amazing group of students could not have accomplished all of the meaningful projects they did this school year. Take a moment to walk through our collective year of supporting and giving to others!

  • Backpack Buddies Program
  • Raised money (Karaoke and Taco Night) to ship hundreds of homemade scarves to our soldiers overseas through Operation Gratitude
  • Organized a Pink Day at school and raised money for cancer research
  • Coat Drive
  • Project Giving Tree
  • Baked cookies for the homeless
  • Collected over 100 pairs of winter boots for pre-school aged children in the Howard County Head Start Program
  • Provided dinner to a Grassroots shelter located in Columbia, MD, made lunches for a cold weather shelter and assembled breakfast bags for children in a homeless shelter
  • Collected supplies for two animal shelters
  • Created Valentines for the students at Head Start in Ellicott City
  • Held a Bake Sale to support Operation Smile - raised enough to pay for one full cleft lip and palate repair surgery
  • Attended a field trip to Mary Ann Winterling Elementary School in Baltimore City - Our students donated books to read with kindergartners and shared lunch together
  • Sponsored a family restaurant night - proceeds to benefit Doctors without Borders, Wounded Warriors, American Diabetes Foundation and St. Jude's Children Research
